Hieronymus or Jerome Bosch is one of the most famous of the Netherlandish
artists, known for his enigmatic panels illustrating complex religious
subjects with fantastic, often demonic imagery. He spent his entire
artistic career in the small Dutch town of Hertogenbosch, from which
he derived his name.
